Fiesta Grounded

It is with regret that the Lions Club of Tavistock and Tavistock Round Table announce that the Westcountry Balloon Fiesta & Day at the Races has been postponed for 2008 and 2009.

The postponement is due to a crippling combination comprising lack of appropriate sponsorship, lack of suitable venue, spiralling statutory costs and increasing legislation.

The organisers have worked hard for the past 6 months in an attempt to ensure the event could continue, but have reluctantly decided that it was simply not possible.  Efforts to make sure that the 'spirit of ballooning' will remain alive in the Tavistock area will continue, with the possibility of balloons appearing at other events over the next couple of years.

If suitable sponsorship can be found, and a venue large enough for the event is available, then it is hoped that a balloon fiesta can once again take place in Tavistock in 2010.
